The Automatic Motorist
A robot chauffeur takes a newly married couple on their honeymoon to the planet Saturn and then on a trip under the sea.
This Thannhouser two-reeler features actor James Cruze who was to earn more fame as a director (THE COVERED WAGON) than as an actor. This is a typical very early silent film with flimsy sets, a few outdoor scenes (a rocky shore line, dunes), and jerky editing. The acting is all silent exclamatory style and it resembles more a tableaux than a narrative. As was typical of this period, title cards merely explain the action that is about to take place. There is no dialogue.
